A TEACHER ELECTS ITS NEW BOARD MEMBERS AND NOMINEES IN A GENERAL ASSEMBLY


A TEACHER elects its new board members and nominees in a General Assembly held last December 9, 2009 at the Aberdeen Court Hotel in Quezon City.

There were 9,467 active members who attended, 60 were physically present and 9,407 were officially represented by proxies. The total active membership at the time of the holding of its General Assembly was 10,423, hence, the presence of a quorum was declared.

Hon. Mariano Piamonte and Hon. Atty. Ulpiano Sarmiento who currently serve as A TEACHER Partylist representatives in Congress delivered their reports respectively before the general assembly.

In the said meeting, Atty. Ulpiano Sarmiento resigned as board member due to personal and other reasons. Ms. Carolina Porio on the other hand, did not attend the general assembly meeting, hence, she lost her opportunity to be nominated and elected to the Board of Directors.

The General Assembly proceeded with the agenda of the meeting following what was officially communicated to the members. Firstly, the purpose of the General Assembly Meeting was the election of the new members of the board of directors, and secondly, election of the official nominees for the forthcoming May 2010 election.

The following were elected as new members of the Board of Directors of A TEACHER.

  • Mariano Piamonte
  • Juliet Cortuna
  • Elizabeth Saldivar
  • Dr. Nenita Habulan
  • Atty. Joseph Estrada

In a separate election, the following were elected as A TEACHER official nominees to the May 2010 election:

  • Mariano Piamonte - 1 st Nominee
  • Juliet Cortuna - 2 nd Nominee
  • Dr. Nenita Habulan - 3 rd Nominee

A TEACHER General Assembly of December 9, 2009 was held in accordance with the democratic process and observed the lawful procedure as prescribed by the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC). It was planned, discussed and deliberated in a series of board meetings. The official notice of meeting was likewise communicated and disseminated to its general membership via postal service, private couriers, emails and was announced in various academic fora.
